BACKGROUND
Born from the grassroots charity SAFE Regeneration Ltd and with the support of Trustees and staff at the organisation a group of local residents established SAFE Community Homes CLT (SCH-CLT) as a vehicle to take forward their aspirations of creating a new neighbourhood as part of the #Destinationbootle project. SCH-CLT is the housing provider that will own and manage the housing that is developed as part of the #Destinationbootle project and it was incorporated in February 2020,
SAFE Regeneration Ltd is a locally led consortium which has been based in the Bootle area for over 15 years, currently located on the site where the first homes will be built. During this time SAFE has provided real support for the community in the shape of business support, incubation space, apprenticeships and delivering a multitude of trans-national projects to improve the living and working environment in Bootle. As part of the re-development of the site SAFE Regeneration Ltd plans the development of 2,500 square metres of new employment space to support new and existing businesses in the area. On completion, Safe Regeneration Ltd will relocate to this new space. This will allow for a wider comprehensive development of all available land for residential use as described in this document which will be owned and managed by SCH-CLT.
The development company 123 Accommodation CIC (123-CIC) a wholly owned subsidiary of SAFE Regeneration Ltd) has received grant funding support from Homes England and Liverpool City Combined Authority to secure planning permission for the scheme and will transfer ownership to SCH-CIC on completion of the build programme.
SCH-CLT is also being supported by Breaking Ground, the Community-led Housing Hub for the Liverpool City Region. Its mission is to raise the profile of community led housing (CLH) and support the successful development and growth of CLH projects by providing a voice for CLH and providing practical support for potential, emerging and existing CLH projects. The #Destinationbootle project (#DB) is the UK’s largest CLH initiative and is a result of 10 years of development work, with SAFE Regeneration Ltd leading the community of Bootle to arrive at this point.
SCH-CLT has aspirations beyond the #Destinationbootle project. We want to work with other communities across the Liverpool City Region to replicate our approach to empowering communities to deliver community-led housing projects which will help contribute to the wider regeneration of neighbourhoods, towns and cities.
